Insight MRDS Mini Red Dot Sight

The MRDS (Mini Red Dot Sight) from Insight Tech Gear is a small, lightweight red dot reflex sight designed to mount to existing optics for use in a backup capacity. The MRDS takes the familiar mini red dot housing sillouette to a new level of functionality and durability while maintaining compatibility with all MIL-STD M1913 Picatinny Rails and Doctor footprint weapon mounts. Designed in response to the US Military’s request for a backup red dot sight for use on precision sniper rifles with magnified optics, the MRDS packs an impressively rugged housing into one of the lightest packages available. It is available in non reflective black or tan and can be had with either a 3.5 or 7 MOA dot size. Windage and elevation adjustments feature positive clicks and require a small screw driver for actuation. Four brightness settings are available including one night vision dot. These are cycled by continually pressing a sealed rubber button located on the back of the sight body.

The MRDS is built to exceed the US Military’s solicitation spec for durability and includes an optional metal sleeve that helps protect the polymer housing from impacts. The lens is also made from an impact resistant polymer and has an anti-reflective coating. The entire unit has been waterproofed to 66 feet for 2 hours and has successfully passed ice, drop, shock, 48-hour salt and fog tests as well as extreme temperature and shot on a variety of firearms for thousands of rounds.

The unit is powered by a single 1632 battery in a top-load compartment; a huge improvement over legacy designs of similar devices. This means that there is no need to remove the unit from the weapon to change the battery, losing your zero. We are pretty impressed with this little sight. While it might not be as rugged or have as many features as some of its competitors, it is definitely the most durable open sight unit we have shot with.
